IRS promises paperless options for filing season 2024.

The IRS announced an ambitious plan for going paperless in the next few years. Thanks to the IRA funding, the agency is accelerating its paperless processing efforts, ensuring the option of paperless correspondence for those taxpayers who opt-in by filing season 2024. Their goal is to achieve paperless processing digitizing by filing season 2025, meaning all paper will be converted into digital files as soon as it arrives to the IRS. Also, they plan to offer the e-filing option for at least 20 of the most used additional tax forms for 2024, and 150 forms for 2025. These efforts will save the agency approximately $40 million invested in storage, allowing them to focus more resources on customer service.
