IRS reports positive balance after first year of the IRA funding.

Given the first anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act funding, IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel remarked on a press call to observe the improvements of the agency during this tax season. Werfel affirmed that thanks to the significant funding boost last year, the agency was able to increase its hiring in order to enhance the taxpayers’ experience. This was reflected in an increase in the percentage of answered calls in the taxpayers’ helpline and a decrease in the waiting times. Likewise, the implementation of chatbots and the reopening of taxpayers’ services centers are counted as part of the positive balance of the agency this past year. Werfel also noted that there are still a lot of improvements to do, and their goal is to work on them in the next few years if the budget isn’t cut.
