Florida Kicks Off ‘Freedom Month’ Sales Tax Holiday
Last week, Florida started the “Freedom Month” sales tax holiday, allowing consumers to avoid sales taxes on various recreational items and event tickets. The initiative, running through the entire month of July, is part of a tax package signed by Governor Ron DeSantis and covers items like boating, fishing, and camping supplies, as well as tickets for concerts, sports, and theater. The Florida Retail Federation anticipates that the focused one-month period will boost consumer awareness and benefit retailers, though critics argue it won’t significantly impact economic growth. The tax holiday excludes rentals and certain purchases and is expected to reduce state and local tax revenues by $91.8 million.
