Florida’s Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday Begins June 1
With the Atlantic Hurricane Season beginning soon, Floridians are prompted to update their hurricane kits through the first Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday of this year from June 1 to June 14. Passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis, during this period tax will not be due on the retail sale of eligible items related to disaster preparedness, allowing shoppers in Florida to purchase essential hurricane supplies with a discount. Tax-exempt items include batteries, coolers, flashlights, weather radios, generators, pet supplies, and more, available in stores and online. Yet, the sales tax holidays do not apply to commercial purchases of eligible pet evacuation supplies, sales within a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment, or airport, and the rental of any eligible items.
